Plant ecology

The sub discipline of ecology involves plant ecology that studies how plants are distributed in the environment. This study involves plant geography as well as interactions occurring between the plant species, individual plants and communities with environment. As plants and animals have different basis of growth and reproduction a different method is used to understand plant ecology. There is a common link of the ecosystem ecology with the different sub disciplines of plant system. Plants require competing against other plants for every basic resource like water, sunlight and nutrients. In the natural ecosystems various plants are well adapted to manage with the competitive environments, this is not seen in agricultural systems where limited resources area available. To deal with competition the physiological processes can vary, this allows examination of the plant system. Growth of various plants can change depending on the terrestrial location. Dynamics like the species, competition, resources and surrounding plants can make a difference in the plant ecology.

The stressful environment will have negative impact on plants whereas the favorable one allows flourishing of plants. Facilitation can act up to lower the effects of stress. There are plant communities distributed as per the biomes depending on the regional climate. It also involves precipitation, temperature, latitudinal trends and soil distribution, hydrology, disturbances and variation. Plant ecology can be quantified to be successful based on its abundance, density, plant cover or biomass. The abiotic factors can make a large difference in the abundance of plant belonging to a particular species. The ecology is also affected if there are issues related to the colonization and extinction when the seed dispersal, local extinction and biological dispersal varies. Understanding abundance of plants and plant ecology can help in preventing loss of forests and managing the green belts in various nations. Overall green ecosystem can be ensured with proper knowledge of the ecology involving plant life.
